Batteries

As the core activity in our group, we develop the next-generation electrode materials for rechargeable batteries to enhance their energy density, safety, and fast-rate cycling capability. We are particularly interested in unlocking the functionalities of new electrode systems that are beyond the conventional intercalation chemistry based on the layered archetypes. To obtain a reliable mechanistic understanding of these materials, our methodology places an emphasis on materials’ atomic structures by applying cutting-edge characterisation and analytical approaches. Our goal is to use the acquired knowledge to develop better electrode systems for making better batteries.
