Lauren Mitchell

I am originally from Shropshire but have been at Lancaster University for both my undergraduate and masters, studying chemistry and graduating in July 2024. My final year dissertation was on the photoelectrochemical characterisation of absorber materials in dye sensitized solar cells, being supervised by Dr Lefteris Danos. This begun my interest in materials and sustainability.

I have continued to stay in Lancaster, beginning my PhD position in October 2024, working in collaboration with Jaguar Land Rover to develop smart windows to reduce heat load and battery strain on cars. I implement a range of techniques in my work from electrochemistry to transmittance and reflectance spectroscopy, whilst also synthesising transition metal thin films using spray pyrolysis methods.

Outside of the lab I am an avid baker, the equivalent of at home chemistry, and enjoy spending my evenings gaming and reading.
